Installation of box roof gutter on veranda roof

A veranda is frequently covered with a corrugated board or multi-wall sheet. A roof gutter must always be installed to divert the rain water or to collect it for garden watering. The following images illustrate how one can install a Marley box roof gutter made of plastic on the corrugated board roof.

The box roof gutter can be fastened easily to the corrugated board or double-wall sheet with the help of special brackets. The plastic gutter bracket is first fastened to the corrugated or double-wall sheet holder. The top section is then pushed and screwed permanently on the corrugated board.

Aligning the first plastic gutter bracket to the corrugated board:

The front edge of the corrugated board must extend ⅓ into the gutter. To guarantee that rain water will flow out safely, the gutter bracket must to be installed with a 2 to 3 cm slope in 10 m.

Fasten the double alignment cord at the highest and lowest points of the gutter bracket, and stretch it from the first to the last gutter bracket.

The distance of the gutter brackets should be maximum 50 cm.

Marley special adhesive and Marley special cleaner are optimally adapted to the quality of the plastic of Marley roof gutters and they guarantee safe and durable sealed connections.

Clean the end pieces thoroughly before bonding and apply a thin layer of Marley special adhesive.

The end pieces can be used at the right or left.

Plug in the drainage branches, define and mark the exact position of the drainage branch.

The easiest way of create the hole for the drainage outlet is to use a hole saw attachment.

While performing sawing jobs please ensure that the edges are chamfered thoroughly before applying the adhesive.

Clean the bonding area of the gutter neck and roof gutter with Marley roof gutter cleaner, and remove possible grease. Then apply the adhesive and paste the necks together.

The roof gutter is cut to length with a fine-toothed saw.

Tip: For good, straight sections, use a cutting or mitre box.

Chamfer the cut ends of the roof gutter.

The sections of the roof gutter are fixed with clips on to the plastic bracket.

Use connecting casings while connecting 2 gutter ends. Apply adhesive on the inner side of the connecting casing and insert the gutter ends into the casing.

To ensure that you have assembled everything correctly, check the slope with a spirit level.

Plug a bend on the neck to connect the roof gutter to the down pipe. Then measure the distance from the opposite bend. Consider an insertion depth of 4 cm and the distance from the house wall.

For narrow protrusions, 2 bends are connected directly with the bend connector.

You can saw off Marley down pipes the same way you saw the roof gutter – with a fine-toothed saw.

Tip: To obtain a straight piece, you should use a cutting or mitre box. The cut ends are to be chamfered properly, especially while installing a Marley rain collector, the collection capacity can be increased considerably this way.

The pipes are fastened with pipe clamps that are screwed into veranda posts. There are two types of clamps: “permanent” and “adjustable” clamps.

The down pipe is secured at the top with a permanent clamp. The ring screw is fastened to the fishplate laterally. The down pipe can be fixed permanently at this point. Distance between the clamps: 2.00 to 2.50 m.

An adjustable clamp is used to fix the down pipe at the centre or bottom end. The ring screw is installed between the fish plates. The pipe can thus move in the clamp and compensate changes in length on account of temperature fluctuations.

A water discharge flap can be installed in the down pipe for diverting and collecting rain water.

You can also divert the rain water with the help of a spout installed directly on the discharge neck.

  • The roof gutter forms a beautiful roof end, and it diverts the water. The rain water is collected and used to water the garden.

You are now ready for the rains!
